The Non-Traditional Wedding Bouquets

I have had brides that are allergic to flowers but they still want a beautiful bouquet for their big day.  I have also had the unconventional bride that wants something really different.  If either description fits your personality check out these non-traditional bouquet ideas that may tickle your fancy.

Paper: faux blooms, colored card stock, and tissue paper

Feathers: great for a formal wedding

Brooches: Perfect for a vintage look and incorporating family heirlooms

Cotton: Adds a little texture and fullness 

Wheat: Is your wedding on a farm or has a beautiful countryside setting? 

Add stalks of wheat to bring it all together.

What's Your Bouquet Style?

Choosing your bridal bouquet can be daunting.  You may know the flowers you want but the style can be a challenge.  In order to give you a leg up when you speak with your florist, check out these styles for your best look.

Arm or Presentation Bouquet

A sweeping arrangement of long stemmed flowers and greenery to be cradled in your arm.  Usually the stems are secured with hand tied or braided ribbon.

Biedermeier Bouquet

A small bouquet of flowers organized in alternating rings.  

The rings can be the same variety in different colors or flowers of different types.

Cascading Bouquet

A bouquet of flowers and greenery that flows down from the holder,

full at the top, dropping into a vine of flowers.

Composite Bouquet

A look that is achieved by creating a flower out of pieces of other flowers.  

Nosegay Bouquet

A small, round, uniformed bouquet.  

The stems typically tightly wrapped with ribbon and tied.

Pomander Bouquet

A ball of flowers suspended from a looped ribbon.

Hand-Tied Bouquet

A popular style, hand-tied bouquet of blossoms and greenery.

Fresh or Silk?

I believe flowers are nature’s way of saying anything can be beautiful. 

The decision whether to use fresh flowers or artificial flowers can involve many factors such as budget, allergic reactions, weather, refrigeration, or preservation just to name a few.  Whether you chose silk or real flowers, you should weigh your options and make your choice based on your budget and what type of wedding you are having.

You can find absolutely stunning silk flowers theses days that people will have to touch or try to smell before they realize they aren't real. They'll always look good and can be a precious keepsake of your special day.

Using real flowers lends an air of romance to your celebration. The smells seem to let people know something special is going on. If you don't have a huge budget for flowers, consider only getting fresh flowers for the bride, a boutonniere for the groom, and flowers for the parents.  Also, you do not have to have fresh flowers for your toss bouquet. 

The key to getting what you want is knowing what you want; height, colors, scent, etc.  Truthfully, everyone will not remember what kind of flowers were there, so do whatever your heart desires and what your budget can afford.
