Wedding Planning Apps For You

I still have some old fashioned ways left in me.  I use pen and paper to take notes, although my trusty smartphone is always with me, then transfer over to my phone and/or laptop.  Today's technology has made it very easy to keep up with all your wedding notes, pics, emails, texts, tweets, etc.; so get rid of that bulky binder and go digital.

Following my own advice, here are a few wedding planning apps I think you will find useful.

WeddingScan - Use WeddingScan app to add products to your wedding registry from any store. Once you have completed your registry you can email directly to your guest.  There is a minimal cost for this app.

Appy Couple - Wedding app and wedding website all in one.  Add any and everything about your wedding.  Your guest will be able to see all information so there will be no excuse.  There is one time cost for this app.

Wedding Countdown - Create a special countdown to help you every step of the way.  Will sync with your social media.  Another unique feature, once your phone knows your wedding date it will countdown to every anniversary.

The Knot Wedding Planner - Great app for budget tracking, guest list management, task management, and so much more.  This app will help keep you on track.

myPantone Weddings & Events - This app will help you with your wedding color palette. Inspiration photos in various Pantone selections and you can take photos to add.

Did They Notice The Details?

You created a wonderful menu for your outdoor summer party, you started a new business so there was a grand opening, your elegant birthday dinner was bigger than you planned, and most importantly, there was your wedding. 

All these events took preparation; planners, venues, florists, photographers, and caterers among a host of others.  Whether you used a planner or you were on your own the extra touches that you added is what makes the details.

It’s the small details that everyone will see that will hold memorable.  The way you use a certain pop of color that makes every element stand out, how the napkin is folded, where the lighting is placed to give the room the right type of ambiance, the script on the invitation, the presentation of the escort cards, even that small filler space that you thought no one would notice but you decided to place a beautiful floor vase adorned with florals. 

Whether it’s a 500 person fund raiser or an intimate dinner for two, it’s all in the details.

What's Your Color (Part 2)

If you read Tuesday's blog you probably know that the month of June will be dedicated to helping and inspiring you with tips for creating your wedding color palette.Our first tip was choosing your main color.  

Now we move on to Tip #2 - Choose your coordinating colors

These colors usually consist of two additional colors.  One color will be used to support your main color and the other will be used as an accent color.  If you are unsure about the colors to use with your main color, try using a color wheel. A color wheel will help you choose colors that are complementary, colors that lie next to each other, or colors of the same family.  

• Complementary colors will allow you to choose colors that are opposite each other on the wheel.  The contrast between the two will create a vibrant look. 

    

•  Look at the colors that lie next to each other on the wheel.  These colors tend to create a calming and elegant effect.  These color combinations work best when they have a similar tint; this means your colors work well if they are either all vibrant or all pastels. 

 

• Consider using wedding colors from the same family. These color plans are clean and soothing. These palettes mix nicely with neutral colors such as black, white or gray.  

 

Use these inspirations as a guideline in choosing your wedding colors.  Whether you're whimsical, romantic, modern, or traditional the color wheel can help make your color decision a lot easier.

Budget Your Centerpiece

Brides are trying to save money any way they can.  Try creating your own centerpieces.  Gather your bridal party (men can do this too) and lets have a fun day of creating.  My advice, don’t pour the drinks until after they are done.

Candles are usually less expensive than flowers depending on how many you use.  They are easy to find and definitely cheaper if purchased in bulk.  If you only use a few, give the illusion of more by using mirrors, different heights, or floating them in water with a few flowers.

 

The cost of flowers can add up quickly.  In order to get more for your buck, talk to your florist about the flowers that are in season.  These will be less expensive than those that are out of season.  Next, think about filler flowers or carnations.  If they are put together right they can make a nice centerpiece.  Lastly, consider submerging long stemmed flowers.  You can get by with one or two stems and if you pair them with candles you have a nice arrangement.

Believe it or not Grass can serve its purpose besides looking pretty in the front & back of your home.

Aisle Runner - Yes or No

The tradition of the aisle runner came about many years ago when the streets were not paved and the wedding guests would track in dirt and mud as they arrived for the wedding.  As we have come into the 21^stcentury, the aisle runner is used as part of the ceremony decorations. 

I have coordinated weddings with and without an aisle runner.  We have used the traditional white runner, an elaborate monogrammed runner, and runners that have the wedding color scheme. 

The choice is yours.  Aisle runner – yes or no, not a necessity but a beautiful option that can add formality, style, and elegance to your ceremony.
