Dressing The Man In Your Life

Black Tie, White Tie, Black Tie Optional.  What is a guy to wear?  It often gets very confusing, let me see if I can help you out a little.

Black Tie: This is the most commonly used for any well to do event.  A classic black tuxedo is still the standard at these events.  When attending an event that calls for "Black Tie" it is important to abide by the rules.  The typical tuxedo jacket has a single button and is single breasted with satin peak lapel and no vent, a black bow tie is a must.

Black Tie Optional: Any event that has this option listed understands that not all guests have tuxedos.  Here it is okay to wear a well polished black suit.  Although still formal, the rules are a little more relaxed.  A tie is still a must, however, it doesn't have to be a bow tie.

Black Tie Creative: This gives your man the opportunity to showcase his personal style; color, accessories, and collar and lapel style.  How you should dress will be determined on the type of event you are attending.

Lounge: This dress code allows more option into your own personal look even though it remains formal.  Tuxedos are not needed here.  A suit in a dark neutral color such as black, grey, or navy.  Feel free to be creative with your lapel and collar style.  A tie is still necessary but you are at liberty to wear a pattern or color.

I hope this removes a little of the confusion the next time you get an invitation with the words "Dress Code" on it.

Now, Let's Get Inspired!
