Seating Chart Mania

What to do about seating your guests is always an issue when planning a wedding.  It's time consuming and many couples dread the task.  So often the question has come up, "do we really need a seating chart?"  I give my couples two choices, open seating with reserved tables or assign your guests to tables.

If you choose not to have assigned seating at least have reserved signs on tables for your immediate family and special guests.  In some cases you may not have the traditional bridal party set up so make sure you have reserved tables labeled "Bridal Party".

When choosing assigned seating keep these tips in mind.

1. Assigned seating gives your reception a formal atmosphere so if you are not looking for a casual look, assign those seats.

2. It assures that your tables are full.  You know exactly who will be attending and know where to place them.

3. Assigning your guests to table also keeps down the drama.  Only you know which family members or friends don't see eye to eye so if you're going to invite them you'll know not to sit them together.

4. When deciding who will sit where make sure to put guests with similarities at the same table. This will make sure the conversation flows and your guests are not bored.

Whichever you decide, assigned seating or not, it is definitely something you need to discuss with your planner and each other.
